CNN/NBC Reporters Wonder If Chattanooga Victims Hit By Friendly Fire

By Kyle Drennen, July 22, 2015 NewsBusted

During a live press conference in the 12:00 p.m. ET hour on Wednesday about the Chattanooga shooting, CNN reporter Aaron Cooper asked FBI Special Agent in Charge Ed Reinhold: “There's been reports that there were some personal or privately owned weapons used in responding to the shooter....Did anybody hit anyone else? Was there any friendly fire incident?”

Reinhold explained that beyond the weapons used by shooter Mohammad Abdulazeez, “Two additional weapons were recovered at the scene. Those weapons belonged to service members and they were – at least one of the weapons was discharged at the subject.” Cooper pressed: “Were those officers authorized to have those weapons?” Reinhold replied: “As far as any authorization of weapons, it's not relevant to our current investigation.”

Jihad Against U.S. Troops Is Not A ‘Circumstance’

By Michelle Malkin, July 17, 2015 National Review

our U.S. Marines, barred from carrying weapons at naval training facilities despite explicit ISIS threats against our military, are dead in Tennessee. Another service member and a Chattanooga police officer survived gunshots after Thursday’s two-stage massacre allegedly at the hands of 24-year-old jihadist Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez. Navy secretary Ray Mabus called the terrorist’s spree “insidious and unfathomable.” President Obama bemoaned the “heartbreaking circumstance” in which the murdered Marines found themselves.

Angry Protesters in Chattanooga: When’s The Government Going To Do Something?

By Greg Jaffe and Thomas Gibbons-Neff J, July 19, 2015 Washington Post

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Paula Proxmire was surrounded by screaming street preachers, angry protesters and unsettled mourners who had just arrived from Sunday church.

Her son, Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Smith, 26, had died Saturday from wounds suffered in a shooting rampage here. The attacker was an aimless, depressed 24-year-old Muslim man whose online postings suggest he may have been motivated by radical Islamist movements.

Proxmire stood across from the bullet-riddled Armed Forces Recruiting Center, one of two military sites attacked by the gunman last week. She brushed back a strand of sweat-soaked hair and sobbed. Her son had been dead for barely one day. Around her people were screaming.

James Woods Slams Liberals Obama Over Chattanooga Shootings

By Ethan Sacks, July 17, 2015 NY Daily News

Actor James Woods cast himself right in the middle of the outrage surrounding the deadly rampage at two Chattanooga military recruitment centers.

One of the most outspoken conservatives in Hollywood took to Twitter Friday to slam liberals and President Obama in the aftermath of the attack that left four Marines dead a day earlier.

The 68-year-old actor’s comments come a day after the Kuwaiti-born Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez, 24, opened fire on the city's Naval Reserve support center, leaving four Marines dead. Abdulazeez, a naturalized U.S. citizen, also died in the deadly attack.

The “JFK” star earlier tweeted his disdain for Obama’s timing in releasing a message to Muslims celebrating Eid al-Fitr, a holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, a holy month of fasting:

Chattanooga Muslims Mourning, Anxious After Shootings

By Jay Reeves, Michael Biesecker and Kathleen Foody, July 18, 2015 Red Alert Politics

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- As the death toll rose to five, a handful of governors ordered National Guardsmen to take up arms in response to the brazen attacks on two Tennessee military sites.

In Chattanooga, a city that prides itself on strong ties between people of different faiths, some Muslims feared the community's perception of them had changed after the shooting rampage Thursday. A 24-year-old man and fellow Muslim killed four Marines and wounded three others, including a sailor who died Saturday from his wounds.

Mohsin Ali, a member of the Islamic Society of Greater Chattanooga, said he hoped the local community didn't dissolve into turmoil the way others have in the region over the building of mosques and other matters. Peaceful coexistence has largely prevailed here.

Media Members Want To Make it Clear They Don’t Know Chattanooga Killer’s Motive

By David Rutz, July 17, 2015
Free Beacon

It’s still up in the air to members of the media what compelled 24-year-old Mohammad Youssuf Abdulazeez, a Muslim, to murder four Marines in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Thursday before being killed in a firefight with police.

As one CNN reporter put it, “he was a nice kid from a nice family, and he was as American as anybody else.”

Chris Cuomo said, “we may never know the exact motive” of Abdulazeez. That sentiment has been repeated across the dial, with pundits and correspondents falling all over themselves to remind viewers we just don’t know the motive.

Homeland Chairman: Tennessee Shooting Appears ‘ISIS-inspired’

By Julian Hattem, July 17, 2015 The Hill

Thursday’s massacre of four Marines in Chattanooga, Tenn., appears to have been a terror attack motivated by Islamic extremism, the head of the House Homeland Security Committee said on Friday.

Though federal investigators later said there was "no indication" the shooting was directed by an outside group, Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) said it had all the hallmarks of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

“My judgment and my experience is that it was an ISIS-inspired attack,” McCaul said during a press conference at Florida’s MacDill Air Force Base. “The targets are identical to the targets called by ISIS to attack.”
The gunman, whom officials have identified as 24-year-old Kuwaiti-born Mohammad Youssuf Abdulazeez, was shot and killed in the firefight. Two other Marines and a local police officer were also injured in the massacre.

Pew: Huge Spike In Americans 'Very Concerned' About Domestic Islamic Extremism

By Paul Bedard, July 17, 2015 Washington Examiner.

Even before the killing of four Marines in Chattanooga, Tenn., in an "act of terrorism," Americans revealed a deep concern about Islamic extremism and a very high worry about ISIS, according to the latest poll from Pew Research.

Some 53 percent, more than the average in the non-Islamic world, said they are "very concerned" about Islamic extremism in the United States, said Pew.

While the numbers were lower than for some countries in Europe that have experienced domestic Islamic terrorism, they were much higher than a few years ago. In 2011, for example, 32 percent told Pew that they were very concerned.

Ted Cruz Calls Chattanooga Attacks An ‘Act of War’

By Morgan Chalfant, July 17, 2015 Free Beacon

Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz labeled the attacks on two military centers in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Thursday that killed four U.S. Marines and injured two others an “act of war.”

Cruz said in a statement Friday that Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez, the Kuwait-born suspected gunman in the attacks, traveled to the Army Recruiting Center and the Naval and Marine Reserve Center “to carry out jihad, an act of radical Islamic terrorism.”

“We need to rid ourselves of two dangerous delusions,” Cruz, a 2016 GOP presidential candidate, explained, “first and foremost that a ‘lone gunman’ — as President Obama described the shooter — is somehow isolated from the larger threat of radical Islamic terrorism.”

Mitchell Fishes For Better Angle On Chattanooga Terrorist

By Blake Seitz, July 17, 2015 FreeBeacon

MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell went fishing for a better angle Friday when she asked a former classmate of Chattanooga mass murderer Mohammad Youssuf Abdulazeez whether he enjoyed “hunting” and other “small-town Tennessee activity.”

“Were guns a big part of activities—social or other activities?” Mitchell asked her interviewee abruptly.

“What?” her interviewee responded.

“Did he hunt, did he shoot?” Mitchell prodded. “Was that just part of small-town Tennessee activity?”

“Um, he actually wasn’t one of the guys I heard about going hunting,” Abdulazeez’s classmate responded. “He wasn’t really that kind of guy.”

Mitchell is a vocal opponent of the widespread availability of firearms.

By James King, July 16, 2015 Vocativ

Chattanooga killer Muhammad Abdulazeez was an avid cage-fighter who competed in local MMA tournaments, according to video posted on Youtube. The man suspected of killing four marines in Tennessee on Thursday can be seen taking on an opponent in a brutal cage fight during a mixed martial arts event in Chattanooga in 2009. Abdulazeez defeated Timmy Hall with a TKO in the second round.

Abdulazeez, 24, was identified by federal authorities as the shooter in Thursday’s deadly attack at a military recruitment center that left four U.S. Marines dead. Vocativ has learned from friends and acquaintances that he was a high school wrestler at Red Bank High School in Hamilton County, Tennessee.
