Pamela Geller: I Will Not Let Violent Threats Silence Me

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Pamela Geller, the conservative blogger known for provoking Muslims, said she will remain under heightened security for the foreseeable future in lieu of recent threats, but insists she is not in hiding.

Geller upped her security after an ISIS sympathizer tweeted out her Upper East Side address Friday, days after it was revealed that she was the supposed target of a beheading in a foiled terror plot in Boston.

“I’m a free person and I’m fighting for freedom,” Geller told 1010 WINS Tuesday. “The last thing I’m going to do is go into hiding.”

ATF To Join NYPD In Fighting New York City Gun Crimes

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Bullet-riddled windows, yellow crime scene tape, and evidence markers denoting where shell casings fell on the sidewalk are becoming all-too-familiar sights on New York City streets.

Now in an unprecedented move, a federal agency is joining the effort to get gun crimes under control, CBS2’s Marcia Kramer reported Monday.

Kramer is told it was a collective decision made by the federal government, the NYPD, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Those agencies are mounting a first-ever anti-gun initiative in high-crime areas.

“There’s going to be an increase in federal arrests – no doubt,” said AFT agent Charles Mulham.

After decades of studying and working with tens of thousands of patients, researchers at the Mayo Clinic say they’ve cracked the code to being happy.

The Mayo Clinic is one of the most prestigious health organizations in the world with as many as 8,000 ongoing studies exploring every imaginable condition — including unhappiness.

Lionel Ketchian is approaching a major milestone.

He will soon celebrate the 25th anniversary of a very important date — Dec. 24, 1990, at around 5 p.m.

It’s not his birthday — or his wedding anniversary. It’s the exact moment Ketchian said he realized he was happy.

“I found it. I felt it. didn’t want to let go of it,” Ketchian said.

NYPD Cops Flood High-Crime Areas In ‘Summer All Out’ Initiative

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The NYPD began a major effort Monday to combat a spike in violent crime.

For the first time in nearly two decades, crime statistics show shootings in the city are up for a second straight year.

“As we expect, when the warm weather comes, we see an increase in certain crimes,” Chief of Department James O’Neill said earlier this month. “We’re struggling with homicides and shootings.”

To help change that, the department is launching its “Summer All Out” program a full month ahead of schedule.

Under the program, 330 police officers will leave administrative duties to patrol 10 precincts where shootings and murders are up.

Stamford Man Calls 911 After 4-Hour Standoff With ‘Aggressive’ Cat

STAMFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) — “You said a cat?”

That was the response from a 911 operator when a Stamford man called Wednesday to report his cat was attacking him.

Mohammed Lokman made the call at around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday to say he could not get into his Shippan Avenue home because his nearly 8-pound cat was being too aggressive.

“I have a problem in my home,” Lokman told 911. “I cannot go inside my home.”

911 operator: What’s the problem?

Lokman: The problem is my cat was getting too aggressive. I was inside and she attacked me, and she scratched me in my leg and bite me. So me and my wife, we come outside and now we cannot go in the home like for three, four hours.

911 operator: Ok, you said a cat?

Lokman: Yeah.

911 operator: Where is the cat?

Lokman: In my home.
