Trump, Le Pen And The Enduring Appeal Of Nationalism

By Financial Times, April 28, 2016

The flags are flying, the anthems ring out. We live in the time of the homeland, of Donald Trump, Marine Le Pen and the Freedom party’s presidential candidate Norbert Hofer, fresh from his resounding victory in the first round of the Austrian presidential poll. Trump has called on Americans to resist “the false song of globalism”. “In a huge number of European countries, patriotic movements are surging vigorously,” was how Le Pen greeted news of Hofer’s victory last weekend. Nationalism is back like it never went out of fashion and, with it, the head-scratching, the puzzlement. How to explain the irrational, the commentators ask. Doesn’t the Brexit camp realise leaving the European Union is a crazy idea? Don’t Trump’s millions understand that he is promising the impossible?

Video: Cops Swarm Woman Pastor In Alley, Take Her Down With Force

By CBS News, April 28, 2016

(CBS) — A woman with two small children in her car tried to pull into her driveway. That simple task ended with Chicago police officers pointing a gun to her head and charging her with attempted murder.

CBS 2’s Dave Savini has police video, the 9-1-1 calls and complaints against these officers.

In 2013, Rev. Catherine Brown found herself in a violent struggle with Chicago police, which was caught on squad car cameras.  It began when Brown was driving down her alley heading to her driveway. Around a bend she says she saw a squad car speeding towards her without lights or sirens.

“It’s a blessing I did blow my horn,” says Brown, who thought the police car could have hit her.

First On CNN: Russians 'Barrel Roll' Over Another U.S. Air Force Plane

By CNN, April 29, 2016

Washington (CNN)A Russian SU-27 conducted a "barrel roll" Friday over the top of a U.S. Air Force RC-135 which was flying a reconnaissance mission in international airspace above the Baltic Sea, the Defense Department said.

The Russian SU-27 approached alongside within 25 feet of the U.S. aircraft and then flew inverted over the top of the plane to the other side, Lt. Col. Michelle L. Baldanza, a U.S. Army spokesperson, said in a statement.

"The SU-27 intercepted the U.S. aircraft flying a routine route at high rate of speed from the side then proceeded to perform an aggressive maneuver that posed a threat to the safety of the U.S. aircrew in the RC-135," Baldanza said.

Collar Gives Your Cat A Human Voice

By Ad Week, April 28, 2016

Since the dawn of time, humans have been confounded by cats, those mystifyingly aloof creatures whose inner thoughts are famously inscrutable. But no longer! Temptations Cat Treats has invented a cat collar that lets your feline speak in a human voice—so you can finally understand (though probably not) exactly what she is trying to tell you.

The Temptations Catterbox, created by London ad agency adam&eveDDB, contains a microphone, speaker, Bluetooth technology and wifi. It captures the cat's meows and translates them into human speech—words that may or may not actually be what they're trying to say.

“Allergic Reaction” Keeps Laremy Tunsil From Fins’ Press Conference

By CBS News April 29, 2016

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Laremy Tunsil kept repeating the same answer to questions about his freefall in the NFL draft, the social media hacking that cost him millions and the investigation he stirred at Ole Miss.

“I’m just here to talk about the Miami Dolphins,” Tunsil said several times Friday.

At his introductory news conference with the Dolphins, the big tackle tried to tamp down the furor surrounding his slide to the 13th pick in the draft.

Touted at one time as a potential No. 1 overall choice, the Mississippi tackle fell into Miami’s lap after a video was posted on his Twitter account shortly before the draft showing him smoking from a gas mask connected to a bong.

That energy is seen in citizenship workshops across Southern California.

Community organizers in the Inland area began holding naturalization drives during the workweek in order to assist hundreds with their citizenship applications. In Orange County, crowds have stood in line to receive citizenship assistance.

Key To Erernal Life? Someone Slready Born Will 'Live To 1,000 And Immortality IS Possible'

By The Guardian, April 30, 2016

Dr Aubrey de Grey believes people who have already been born could live for ten centuries because of ongoing research being done into "repairing the effects of ageing."

He hopes to ultimately create preventative treatments that mean humans would be able to consistently re-repair and live as long as 1,000 years or possible even forever.

British-born Mr de Grey, who graduated from Cambridge University in 1985 insists he is one of very few scientists looking at preventing, rather than slowing down ageing, and is perplexed why there is not huge focus on it.

Racist Statements Lead Lawmakers To Reject John Wayne Day

By Daily Mail, April 29, 2016

California lawmakers have rejected a resolution to honor the late actor and director John Wayne because of decades-old racist comments that he made.

The state Assembly defeated the official ode to world-renowned movie icon John Wayne after several legislators described statements he made about racial minorities and his support for the anti-communist House Un-American Activities Committee and John Birch Society.

Known as 'Duke,' a nickname he picked up as a boy in Glendale, California, Wayne grew into the star of movies including The Alamo, The Green Beret, and True Grit, for which he won an Academy Award, while portraying the gruff, rugged cowboys and brave soldiers who were his stock in trade.

Johnny Manziel Watches LA Rams Choose Jared Goff As Top Pick Of NFL Draft 2016

By Daily Mail, April 29, 2016

There were few surprises on Thursday night when the Los Angeles Rams signed up Jared Goff with the first pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.

With a strong, accurate arm and quick release alongside a squeaky-clean reputation off the field, Goff was widely expected to be among the most sought-after players.

Meanwhile Johnny Manziel, a former first round pick sacked earlier this year for an endless series of off-field scandals, was seen watching the draft in a bar in Columbus.
