The Baylor Bears endured a miserable first quarter against Texas Saturday, losing third-string quarterback Chris Johnson to injury as the Longhorns jumped out to a 17-0 lead. Baylor’s fourth quarterback Lynx Hawthorne was intercepted on a deep pass with less than a minute remaining in the first quarter, and at the end of the play made a hard tackle near the Texas sideline to take down Duke Thomas.

Unhappy with Hawthorne’s hit on Thomas, Texas’ P.J. Locke shoved Hawthorne in the back, and Kevin Vaccaro fell over Hawthorne, leading Baylor players to run across the field to protect their quarterback. Baylor and Texas coaches did their best to separate the players and it did not appear that any punches were thrown, but multiple helmets were tossed.
