Middle East: Announcing "up to 300" advisers for crumbling Iraq, President Obama says U.S. troops won't "be fighting in Iraq again," but maybe Iran can save the country. Is he engineering American decline?

The president on Thursday announced "a small number" of military advisers for Iraq. Meanwhile, we will "assess how we can best train, advise and support Iraqi security forces going forward."

The Iraqis know this is Groucho Marx's pep talk during the war scene in "Duck Soup":

"Remember, while you're out there risking your life and limb through shot and shell, we'll be in here thinking what a sucker you are."

Obama's papier-mache assistance also sends a message to the world of American undependability, paralysis and global decline.

The president touts "targeted and precise military action if and when we determine that the situation on the ground requires it." Uh, "the situation on the ground" is that a Sunni terrorist caliphate is conquering northern Iraq and Syria.

A few shots won't undo that, so what exactly is the point, except to confirm to our enemies that U.S. actions are ineffective and further the myth that "George W. Bush's war failed"?
