Squabbling has broken out among union forces — with a splinter group, OUR Walmart, claiming that it better represents the interests of Walmart’s 1.4 million employees than the United Food and Commercial Workers union, which has led the charge against Walmart for the past two decades.
On Thursday, OUR Walmart, which is composed of Walmart workers and at least two former UFCW employees, said that it had joined forces with 20 worker advocacy and social justice groups, including Working Families Party and Restaurant Opportunities Centers.
The problem is that the UFCW owns the trademark and logo to the five-year-old name “OUR Walmart” and says that the UFCW’s OUR Walmart group is alive and thriving. The labor group was also OUR Walmart’s main backer.
