United States Marine Corps Marks 239 Years At Its Birthday Ball

Since the United States Marine Corps was founded by the Continental Congress on Nov. 10, 1775 to fight for independence at sea and at shore, it has been called upon to be "most ready when the nation is least ready."

So when an invitation beckoned "Marines, Sailors and distinguished Marine supporters of Marine Forces Reserve and Marine Forces North will gather to celebrate the birth of the United States Marine Corps on its 239th anniversary," they showed up at the Hilton Riverside Hotel on Saturday (Nov. 1) in black-tie or military evening dress "B" attire to celebrate. The birthday ball commemorates the history and traditions of the Marine Corps, and is a way for the local Marines to thank community leaders and supporters for their continued dedication to the Marines.
