The folk singer Ray LaMontagne has canceled a concert scheduled to take place at the University of Texas at Austin because of the university’s concealed-carry policy, he announced in a Facebook post.

Starting this academic year, Texas’ “campus carry” law allows students with concealed-handgun permits to carry their guns on the campus.

Mr. LaMontagne said ticket costs would be refunded for the concert, scheduled for Thursday at the University of Texas Performing Arts Center.

“No matter how hard I try to understand the rationale for allowing guns on campus or more broadly, the ‘concealed carry’ law in general, I just cannot in any way support that ideology,” Mr. LaMontagne wrote in his Facebook post.
