BRUSSELS (AP) — Belgian police fired tear gas and water cannons at yellow-vested protesters calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Charles Michel after they tried to breach a riot barricade, as the movement that started in France made its mark Saturday in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Protesters in Brussels threw paving stones, road signs, fireworks, flares and other objects at police blocking their entry to an area where Michel's offices, other government buildings and the parliament are located.

Dutch Party Leader Wilders Posts Muhammad Cartoons On YouTube

By Corina Ruhe, Jun. 20, 2015, Bloomberg

The controversial Dutch politician Geert Wilders showed cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in a three-minute film on YouTube on Saturday after public television didn’t air the program as planned.

Wilders, a parliamentarian for the Freedom Party, had intended the film to be televised during a slot granted to political parties in the Netherlands. Dutch public broadcasting system NPO said it had received the wrong footage and the program would air on June 24.

“It’s important we show them,” Wilders said of the nine cartoons in the film. “That is the only way to assure that the terrorists do not defeat freedom of speech.”

Wilders has been a vocal opponent of Islam and migration to the Netherlands, using his Twitter account to rail against everything from Islamic State killings to refugees seeking asylum. He has lived under police protection since 2004 following death threats. In his 2008 film “Fitna,” he called on Muslims to rip out “hate-preaching” verses from the Koran.

Dutch Populist Blames 'Misunderstanding' As Mohammed Cartoons Not Aired

AFP
By AFP/Yahoo, Jun. 20, 2015

The Hague (AFP) - Dutch anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders blamed a "misunderstanding" for the failure Saturday of his planned airing of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed, insisting they would now be broadcast next week.

"I have just spoken to NPO boss (Henk) Hagoort. It seems to have been a misunderstanding," Wilders tweeted after Dutch public broadcaster NPO aired a previous party-political broadcast of Wilders in which the cartoons did not feature.

The attempted airing of the video including caricatures that many Muslims find offensive descended into farce after Wilders initially accused the public broadcaster’s news, sports and current affairs arm NOS for the mix-up.

Dutch Anti-Islam Politician Geert Wilders Vows To Broadcast Cartoons Of Prophet Muhammad On TV

AFP
By The Sunday Morning Herald, Jun. 20, 2015

The Hague: Publicity-seeking Dutch anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders is to broadcast cartoons of the prophet Muhammad on television during time reserved for political parties, his party says.

The cartoons will be shown on Dutch public television on Saturday, Mr Wilders' Freedom Party (PVV) said on Friday, adding that they would be repeated on June 24 and July 3.

Mr Wilders said he was making the broadcasts to defend freedom of speech after two militants were shot dead while attacking a Muhammad cartoon contest in Texas last month.

Many Muslims find drawings of the prophet to be disrespectful or outright blasphemous and Dutch authorities have said such a move could see Mr Wilders' right to airtime suspended for up to four years.

Dutch embassies have reportedly been warned about what measures to take if the cartoons are broadcast, as they could spark violent protests.
