In something of a blow for the Democratic Party’s official stance on the issue, Alan Krueger has come out with his opinion that a $15 an hour national minimum wage is simply too high for the United States. The reason that this is something of a blow is because the entire idea that there’s no downside to a minimum wage comes from Krueger’s research (with David Card) in the early 1990s. The result of this is that there’s no serious scholars of the subject who are willing to support that $15 target. Sure, there’s a lot of political campaigners but that’s something rather different from seasoned and knowledgeable researchers.

As Mark Perry points out:

The Democratic Party platform calls for a $15 per hour national minimum wage. Hmm. Here is economist Alan Krueger, a former chairman of President Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers, on the “fight for 15,”
