NBC News insists corrected story about Trump not visiting troops was correct 'at the time'

NBC News changed a misleading headline and added a lengthy explanatory note to a report about how President Trump failed to visit U.S. service members at Christmastime one day after it no longer was valid.

Edits to a story once headlined "Trump becomes first president since 2002 not to visit troops at Christmastime" were set in motion after the president and first lady Melania Trump made a surprise visit Wednesday, one day after Christmas, to the joint U.S.-Iraqi al-Asad Air Base, west of Baghdad. The pair had departed the White House in secret late Tuesday, which was still Christmas.
