Facebook's $1 Billion Terrorism Lawsuit Points To A Huge Problem For Silicon Valley

As social media and messaging platforms have become central to the way that extremist groups communicate, Washington has turned to Silicon Valley for help in the global fight against terrorism. But many believe that technology companies can, and should, be doing more. Last year, Hillary Clinton called on tech leaders to “put the great disrupters to work” to disrupt terrorism, specifically ISIS, fueling a broader conversation surrounding the corporate world’s responsibility for thwarting terrorist activity. This week, that debate intensified when Facebook was served with a lawsuit seeking a billion-dollar settlement on behalf of the victims of terrorist attacks in the Middle East.
