The total cost of three years of education at Philadelphia University for Simone Muller, former live-in au pair to U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah, hovered around $110,000.
The amount paid by Muller herself, witnesses told a federal jury Tuesday, was less than $250.
The rest, prosecutors said as the congressman's corruption trial entered its third week, was covered by a wealthy lobbyist accused of bribing Fattah for years, and by the unusual efforts of top college administrators to ensure that Muller received scholarships that some within the school believed should have gone to students with greater financial need.
