Barack Obama delivered a commencement speech at Howard University on Saturday - and gave a nod to two pop culture icons in the process.
The president told 2,300 graduates in Washington, DC that a lot of work still needs to be done to better race relations in the US, even though they have improved in the past 30 years.
'Now Shonda Rhimes owns Thursday night and Beyonce runs the world,' he said, making a point about diversity.
Grey's Anatomy and Scandal, created by Rhimes, and How To Get Away With Murder, which she produces, all became part of a primetime Thursday night lineup on ABC.
