Student protests over racist incidents at the University of Missouri led two top university officials to resign this week, and have spurred calls for change at other college campuses across the country.
On Monday, University of Missouri President Tim Wolfe and Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin stepped down amid growing criticism over how they handled racial incidents on the Columbia, Mo., campus. Wolfe took "full responsibility for the frustration" students expressed and said their complaints were "clear" and "real," The Associated Press reported.
For months, black student groups had complained Wolfe was unresponsive to racial slurs and other slights on the overwhelmingly white main campus of the state's four-college system. The complaints came to a head Nov. 7, when at least 30 black football players announced they would not play until the president left. A graduate student also went on a week-long hunger strike.
