Surging 2016 Republican candidate Ben Carson has “suspended” his campaign to embark on a book tour.

The retired neurosurgeon made the unusual announcement Thursday, explaining he has put all public campaign events on hold so he can promote his new book “A More Perfect Union” and raise money.

Staffers from Carson’s campaign will not accompany the candidate during the book tour, a spokesman told ABC News
