A member of the Nusra Front, Al-Qaeda’s branch in Syria, posted a photo to Twitter claiming to show his friend carrying “a brand new US machine gun.” Identifying himself as Abu Saeed Al-Halabi, he said members of Division 30, a group of U.S.-trained Syrian rebels, delivered the weapon.

The authenticity of the image could not be confirmed, and it was unclear where the photo was taken. But it follows reports last week that the U.S.-trained rebels gave Nusra Front ammunition and half a dozen pick-up trucks on September 21-22, and were granted safe passage in exchange, a U.S. military spokesman said, according to Reuters.

    Hmmmmm. I am not a gun expert but I didn't know that "NEW" US machine guns had lumber as opposed to some sort of composite or alloyed furniture on the barrel. That receiver looks to be pressed out of a nice bit of sheet metal and not forged or milled. Aren't those Mags more inline with the NATO 7.62x51 round? I guess what I am trying to say is that looks a lot like a standard AK47 Assault Rifle, made and copied all over the world, and not a US made Machine Gun.

    That is an AK47 variant. Nothing like that is standard issue to US military. The AK is now made world wide, but originated in Russia.
