'It Would Be Worse If We Hadn't Invaded Iraq,' Claims Tony Blair --W silent

Tony Blair
By Jane Merrick, Jun. 15, 2014, Independent.co.uk

Tony Blair last night accused critics of the war in Iraq of trying to "wilfully" claim the current crisis in the country is a result of the original invasion.

In a 3,000-word essay, Mr Blair rejected claims that he was to blame, saying that if the West had not rid Iraq of Saddam Hussein, the crisis in the Middle East would be worse.

"We have to liberate ourselves from the notion that 'we' have caused this. We haven't. We can argue as to whether our policies at points have helped or not; and whether action or inaction is the best policy and there is a lot to be said on both sides. But the fundamental cause of the crisis lies within the region not outside it," he wrote. Mr Blair added that it is a "bizarre reading of the cauldron that is the Middle East today, to claim that but for the removal of Saddam, we would not have a crisis".

He wrote: "Because some of the commentary has gone immediately to claim that but for that decision, Iraq would not be facing this challenge; or even more extraordinary, implying that but for the decision, the Middle East would be at peace right now; it is necessary that certain points are made forcefully before putting forward a solution to what is happening now.

  1. In 2002 Airforcemag.com released a Rumsfeld memo called the "Parade of Horribles." Here is one of those: "17. US could fail to manage post-Saddam Hussein Iraq successfully, with the result that it could fracture into two or three pieces, to the detriment of the Middle East and the benefit of Iran."

The architects of this disaster can deny it all they want but this fiasco is laid directly at our feet. The people who demanded and sold the war are directly responsible for this. They will try to lay it at the feet of the current President but we all know the truth. Well at least people who pais attention will. The rest will say this war was won in 2008 and everything bad started happening in 2009.

  2. We should have finished the job during Iraq 1. It has been the lack of commitment by a succession of leaders, to defeat the enemy for fear of upsetting Islam.

The forces of Islam in the region are know better armed and better trained than they ever were, or could ever have been had we stayed away.

Stop arming Islam. And stop this terrible cult from spreading around the world. And please tell Blair to keep his nose out. Him and his liberal friends are of no use to anyone, as still after all these years he still hasn't plucked up the courage to point out the elephant in the room.

  3. Regime change IS a breach of UN mandate, vehemently denied by western allies, here we have many admissions in the current era admitting to that fact posthumously... So can we now rest assured that charges will be brought against the USA and UK at the Hague?
