President Trump whiplashed Washington through 24 hours of chaos and confusion, culminating Thursday with a surprise announcement that he will unilaterally impose steep tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports.
His own aides were stunned. The stock market plunged. It was the moment many of his advisers had long feared would occur when he grew tired of talking points and economic theory and decided to do things his way.

PARKLAND, Fla. — Broward County deputies received at least 18 calls warning them about Nikolas Cruz from 2008 to 2017, including concerns that he "planned to shoot up the school" and other threats and acts of violence before he was accused of killing 17 people at a high school.
The warnings, made by concerned people close to Cruz, came in phone calls to the Broward County Sheriff's Office, records show. At least five callers mentioned concern over his access to weapons, according to the documents. None of those warnings led to direct intervention.

The popular characters hit the cineplex this summer in Suicide Squad and Jason Bourne, guns in hand, their marksmanship a telltale sign that film fans were in for a bloody good time.
But as violent headlines — and a raging political debate on gun control — dominate the news, Hollywood has found itself battling accusations of hypocrisy.

NRA: Obama Pushing For 'Largest Gun Grab In American History'
The Obama administration is pushing to ban Social Security beneficiaries from owning guns if they lack the mental capacity to manage their own disability payments — a move the NRA is calling the “largest gun grab in American history.”
The push is intended to integrate data for the first time from the Social Security Administration into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), OutdoorHub reported. Beneficiaries who have been declared incompetent to manage pension or disability payments and assigned a fiduciary could then potentially lose their right to bear armsour, after they increased wages at all levels in April, Gibson said.

Guns Seized After Waco Shootout Being Tested

HOUSTON - The guns seized after the deadly shootout in Waco have the potential to breathe new life into unsolved crimes around the country.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosive's Houston office is taking the lead on tracing all of the guns found to determine if any can be connected to cases that go well beyond the Waco area.
"We're initiating firearms traces on all the firearms that were recovered," said Rob Elder, ATF special agent-in-charge.
Elder said at last count, more than 100 firearms have been recovered; everything from pistols to rifles.
"We don't know, at this point, if those weapons could have been used in other shootings, other homicides," said Elder.

Concealed Carry Predictions Way Off Target
By Christian Schneider, Apr. 4, 2015, Journal Sentinel
When the Wisconsin Senate gathered in June of 2011 to take up a bill allowing the state's citizens to carry concealed weapons, protesters around the Capitol building were still in a state of high dudgeon. As a result, Republicans were accused of "rushing" through "socially divisive" bills such as concealed carry and voter identification through the legislative process while the state's attention was focused elsewhere.
Indeed, on the very day the Senate met to debate concealed weapons, the state Supreme Court issued an opinion upholding Gov. Scott Walker's union changes. Yet in retrospect, the alleged clandestine nature of concealed carry's passage didn't help the bill's supporters. Instead, it may have aided its opponents a great deal more. Now, four years later, there is scant record of how terrible their hysterical predictions actually turned out.
