By Politico, Dec. 30, 2016

President Barack Obama will head to Capitol Hill Wednesday to meet with congressional Democrats about how to shield Obamacare from Republican efforts to dismantle it, a Capitol Hill source told POLITICO.

The meeting is at 9 a.m. in the Congressional Visitors Center auditorium and is for both House and Senate Democrats, according to a notice sent to members Friday morning.

The Islamic State released a grisly new video today showing child jihadists hunting down bound "apostates" in a live-fire training exercise.

The half-hour-long production, from ISIS headquarters in Raqqa, shows child jihadists -- boys about 9 to 12 years old -- crawling through brush carrying rifles and snipping through a barbed-wire fence toward a training compound with one-story buildings and dummies as targets.

By Real Clear Investigations, Dec. 31, 2016

In the world of climate science, the skeptics are coming in from the cold.

Researchers who see global warming as something less than a planet-ending calamity believe the incoming Trump administration may allow their views to be developed and heard. This didn’t happen under the Obama administration, which denied that a debate even existed. Now, some scientists say, a more inclusive approach – and the billions of federal dollars that might support it – could be in the offing.

“Here’s to hoping the Age of Trump will herald the demise of climate change dogma, and acceptance of a broader range of perspectives in climate science and our policy options,” Georgia Tech scientist Judith Curry wrote this month at her popular Climate Etc. blog.

By Red State, Dec. 28, 2016

Last week, President Obama assured that there would be no question about his anti-Semitic attitude, as he authorized our representative to the U.N. to sit back and allow a resolution to be passed that denied the statehood of Israel and endangered the Jewish people.

Forgive me this moment of flesh, but to every representative who voted for this vile resolution, to the U.S. representative who abstained, and Obama, each of you are the lowest form of Jew-hating (insert word that questions their parentage).

That goes double for John Kerry.

They know what this means to the nation of Israel. This open and unashamed anti-Semitism is the kind of thing that led us into a World War.

As I posted yesterday, there is a slow but steady leak of documents appearing in the official Egyptian press that implicates John Kerry in the drafting of the UN Security Council Resolution condemning Israel for building housing in Jerusalem among other places. Both State and the White House deny this happened though their denials are somewhat a odds with each other. The White House denies a meeting took place, State says the meeting was not as described. What is funny is that the administration keeps denying that a “meeting” took place when the documents plainly refer to more than one meeting:

By Daily Caller, Dec. 30, 2016

A Black Lives Matter chapter publicly praised a Starbucks barista for spiting in an officer’s coffee at a local California coffee shop Wednesday night.

The Facebook page “Stockton Police Department, Corruption Reporting Page” posted a photo of the officer and his family, reports Fox 40.

“We are happy to report that today this officer from the Stockton Police Department got to have coffee at Starbucks … served with a side of spit,” the caption alleged.

Black Lives Matter Stockton contended that an anonymous barista spit in the coffee because they were unhappy with how the officer had treated a family member. The barista was also displeased with how the department did not take a race related complaint seriously.

Oscar-nominated film-maker Lee Daniels has criticised the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, saying that people need to “stop complaining”.

Daniels, whose film Precious made him only the second black director to have ever been nominated for an Oscar, has spoken about his frustration with those who claim the past two years of all-white nominees is a clear sign of industry racism.

A Mexican man accused of raping a 13-year-old girl on a Greyhound bus that traveled through Kansas had been deported 10 times and voluntarily removed from the U.S. another nine times since 2003, records obtained by The Associated Press show.

Three U.S. Republican senators — including Kansas' Jerry Moran and Pat Roberts — demanded this month that the Department of Homeland Security provide immigration records for 38-year-old Tomas Martinez-Maldonado, who is charged with a felony in the alleged Sept. 27 attack aboard a bus in Geary County. He is being held in the Geary County jail in Junction City, which is about 120 miles west of Kansas City.

U.S. officials are grappling with a 15 percent surge in illegal immigration, reflecting continued failures by the Obama administration to deter illegal immigration along the country’s southwestern border.

Homeland Security officials apprehended 530,250 illegal immigrants and sent 450,954 people back to their home countries over the 12-month period that ended in September, according to figures released Friday by the Department of Homeland Security.

Donald Trump likes attacking soft targets, and the United Nations is about as soft as they come. Over the past two months, U.N. officials have been bracing for an entirely inevitable clash with the next U.S. administration. Their only question has been exactly what would set off the showdown. Would it be climate change? Torture?

Now they have their answer. The president-elect is gearing up to do battle with the U.N. even sooner than expected, and his casus belli is a classic sore point in U.S.-U.N. relations: Israel. Trump not only tried to stop the U.N. Security Council’s recent resolution condemning Israeli settlements, but also suggested the U.N. itself will face consequences once he is president, tweeting, “As to the U.N., things will be different after Jan. 20th.”

Rainey rips the “Khalidi video mythology … which [Breitbart News] speculates will lay bare the ugly back story of Obama’s disdain of Israel … and his effusive support of Mideast radicals. Such fantastical thinking is rife not just on Breitbart.com but across the conservative Interwebs.” There is nothing fantastical about suggesting that the reason that the Times didn’t originally report Obama’s words at the event, or the more radical words of the evening, was to protect their beloved presidential candidate. Given the Times‘ track record of Obama defense, it’s the only rational conclusion to draw.

But Rainey’s condescension continues. “In what will doubtless be a vain attempt to quell the bleating from the political fringe, I offer here a review of the trust history of the ‘Khalidi tape,'” he writes. What was that history that would shed light on the Times‘ non-transparency? Not much. He rehashes the original Peter Wallsten story labeling Obama a quasi-moderate, without evidence to support that view. He then states:

By The Hill, Dec. 28, 2016

Before and after his election as president of the United States, Donald Trump repeatedly promised that he would do what is right for America. He won’t be sworn in for another fews weeks, but he isn’t waiting to make moves for the country.

He has persuaded Carrier Corporation to keep nearly 1,000 jobs in Indiana instead of moving them to Mexico. He has complained that Boeing’s cost of building a new 747 for future presidents is out of control and urged the federal government to cancel the order.

Trump is against skyrocketing drug prices. Under the current system, Medicare and Medicaid buy products from the drug companies without competitive bidding. People wonder why the Department of Defense must make its purchases through competitive bidding. Trump plans to allow Medicare and Medicaid to negotiate prices too. This would bring drug prices down in general and would be a major relief for the public.

By USA Today, Dec. 28, 2016

Democratic leaders are calling for a “day of action” on Jan. 15 to mobilize grassroots opposition across the country to Republican plans to “end Medicare as we know it and throw our health care system into chaos.”

In a Wednesday letter, Senate and House Democratic leaders Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., along with Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., asked their congressional colleagues for help organizing rallies or other events in their own states. Sanders, who was tapped to lead “outreach” for Senate Democrats next Congress, has called for Democrats to get out of D.C. and engage working people following Hillary Clinton’s loss of the presidential race to Republican Donald Trump.

There aren’t many people like Michael Wear in today’s Democratic Party. The former director of Barack Obama’s 2012 faith-outreach efforts is a theologically conservative evangelical Christian. He is opposed to both abortion and same-sex marriage, although he would argue that those are primarily theological positions, and other issues, including poverty and immigration, are also important to his faith.

During his time working for Obama, Wear was often alone in many of his views, he writes in his new book, Reclaiming Hope. He helped with faith-outreach strategies for Obama’s 2008 campaign, but was surprised when some state-level officials decided not to pursue this kind of engagement: “Sometimes—as I came to understand the more I worked in politics—a person’s reaction to religious ideas is not ideological at all, but personal,” he writes.

Democrats have been shuffling through every agonizing step of the acceptance of the devastating 2016 election, but Huffington Post journalist Sam Stein forced them to face and accept the utter decimation on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Wednesday.

In response to President Barack Obama denying his culpability in Hillary’s loss and his insistence that he would have won against Donald Trump in a run for a third term, Stein begrudgingly contradicted the president:

Skip to 13:20 of the clip for the key bit. Dude, second look at–

No. I can’t bring myself to say it.

“I never have believed that Jesus Christ would approve of abortions and that was one of the problems I had when I was president, having to uphold Roe v. Wade. And I did everything I could to minimize the need for abortions. I made it easy to adopt children, for instance, that were unwanted and also initiated the program called Women and Infant Children, or WIC program, that’s still in existence now. But except for the times when a mother’s life is in danger or when a pregnancy is caused by rape or incest I would certainly not or never have approved of any abortions…
